So this past week I’ve been in San Diego for our Annual Conference and I’m completely exhausted. I wanted to share with everyone the different ways that we used to connect with our constituents and I would love your feedback on all we’ve done.
The PAnel – A conference blog manned by 11 PAs/PA Students & 1 exhibitor (who works for a medical library). This was the first blog of this nature that AAPA ha… Continue

Recently ASAE released the “Power of A” campaign (aka #PWRA) to, from what I can tell, little acclaim in the association world. I really haven’t see anyone be like “wow that’s fantastic, that will really help us as an association reach our members”. In fact, Chris Bailey from Gravit8… Continue

I do social media for a living. My position lies in the Marketing Department of my association, though associations handle this in different ways. I've compiled some pros & cons for the three major departments of associations that I see social media specialists in.
Remember that each department looks for a certain skill set, and that skill set will affect your social media strategy. Please note that these are potential pros & cons for general departments and are in no way reflective of… Continue

I subscribe to a few blogs that produce a LOT of content, I’m talking probably 10+ posts/day. That’s a lot to me, I can’t possibly digest it all and still remain productive.
Newspapers produce a lot of content as well, but they organize them into sections, sections that appear in every paper so you can always find what you’re looking for. Makes the content digestible, and people can pic… Continue
This question popped into my head and I don't know my own answer, so I thought I'd take it to the streets and find out what you all say...

A break from our regularly scheduled programming to bring this to your attention…
Today I was going through my reader and stumbled upon this blog post by David Meerman Scott about what AIIM is doing to help gain new members in this rough economic time. They are letting new members name their own price for membership.
I don’t know if I’ve ever heard of an asso… Continue

After reading the Buzz Bin’s post about the new Facebook changes that bear a striking resemblance to Twitter, I’ve decided to finally weigh in. (Because I know you all were waiting for that???)
Here’s where I think the changes went ary…
Facebook’s focus was on lifestreaming, meaning it was about the things you did - what you became a fan of, what events you decided to attend, who’s wall you wrote… Continue

So there are some things I’ve noticed that I’m not doing that I really should be. Here’s my list about how I (& you) can spice up your blogging:
1. Include pictures - We all need a little visual stimulation!
2. Include a relevant video clip - If you’re having problems explaining something, see if someone has a video explaining it.
3. Guest posts - Is there a blogger who you really dig how they write? Ask them to guest post for you!
4. Interviewing - Do you admire what someone else is doi… Continue

So my answers to these questions are so long that I wanted to break this up into more manageable pieces. Plus I know I hate reading super long blog posts.
See Part 1 here.
And so it continues…
6. What is “12 seconds” and “twitscoop?”
“12 Seconds” is a reference to 12seconds.tv, it’s a way to filter in updates from that site into your TweetDeck. “Twitscoop” refers to twitscoop.com which claims to track what’s hot on twitter right now. Honestly, I don’t really use either of these featur… Continue

A colleague of mine asked me where he could find some basics of Twitter, I pointed him in a few directions, but they weren’t the answers to his specific questions. I had him write out his questions so I could answer them. Here goes…
1. How do you use an @ sign and what is its purpose?
The @ sign means just that, you are speaking “at” someone. In the twitterverse they use “@[username]” to reply at what someone else has said. There is also a sec… Continue

So this is the fourth meme I've answered in the last 12 hours. Some of that has to do with the insane craziness that is my life lately (had a show open just last weekend) and not responding sooner. My own fault, right?
Well here goes...
I was tagged in a Meme by Maddie Grant of Socialfishing... challenging me to a share a story about WOM (word of mouth) and how it helps build communities. (Was also tagged by… Continue

Great post Lindy!

I'm not trying to be rebellious here with all my brand jacking thievery of late, but I see a trend in associations that is starting to scare me. It seems like everyone and their brother is setting up a social network. Okay, so this might see a little contradictory considering I set-up SNAP, BUT I'm just going to keep going with this thought.
I've noticed lately internal social networks as o… Continue
So the past two days I was at ASAE Tech '09. Awesome conference. I completely rocked out with my geek out, tweeted like crazy, my head I think at one time exploded from technology overload.
But then something started to develop...
There was a twitter account (@Tech09) that was the "official" ASAE Technology Conference tweeter. It sent out updates the whole time, letting us know what was going on. Coo… Continue

I’m at the ASAE Technology Conference right now, attending a session given by Jeff De Cagna & Ben Martin, CAE on how to leverage social technologies. It’s basically going over the results of their report that was released yesterday at www.socialtechreport.org.
Please excuse any typos since this was done live… Also any links that haven’t already been added will be there later.
Monitoring blogs is the #1 thing that associations are doing in social media. It was only 51% of their respondents,… Continue

When you think of Connection what comes to mind? Some people may think of Love Connection and others may think of the TV Connection. Some say Connections are Power or Connections run the World.
What does the word “Connection” mean to you?

1: the act of connecting : the state of being connected: as a: causal or logical relation or sequence connection between two ideas> b (1): contextual relation or association connection the word has a different meaning> (2): relat… Continue
Just after the Inaugural Speech today, I presented for the St. Louis chapter of ASAE acronymed as SLSAE. The topic was committee involvement and building Killer committees by placing the right talent in the right slots. I shared a personal assessment that helps show our natural tendencies during a group , committee, or team effort. Most audience members saw the use of such an assessment beneficial for their membership and association as a whole. However, a challenge was put forth by an attendee… Continue

Why hadn't I heard about this before today?
Just one thing to say from the Social Media community... Thanks Obama!
